The Southwest Terror Fest is a two-day festival covering the best of Arizona’s metal scene with some of the best bands from the underground playing in an intimate setting over two days in Tucson, AZ. The Age of Metal is partnering with the folks from the Southwest Terror Fest to give you a primer of all of the bands playing. Today we look at the black-and-rollers TOAD…
Band name: TOAD (Take Over And Destroy)
Where are you from?
What do you sound like?
An American rock & roll band from the 1970’s trapped inside a Scandinavian metal band from the 1990’s, playing along to the Creepshow soundtrack in an HP Lovecraft story.
How did you get involved with Southwest Terror Fest?
We were asked to play by the guys that are organizing the event. They’re good friends of ours.
What do you think of Arizona’s metal crowd in general?
We don’t really know. Sometimes turnouts are good, sometimes they’re not. We tend to focus more on the energy we’re creating rather than the energy the crowd is creating.
What’s the most ridiculous thing that’s happened to your band?
There was a guy murdered immediately before we played our set outside of a club in Austin, Texas. We saw the whole thing go down. That was pretty ridiculous.
How has your sound changed over time?
The sound is much heavier and more complex than it used to be.
What’s the one thing you’re looking forward to the most at the fest?
What band do you recommend seeing aside from yourselves?
Is there a place we can hear your music online?
