Intergalactic space mutants defrosted by global warming in Antarctica. That can only be the legendary band Gwar. Finally after a year they have made their grand return to planet earth and are currently on tour with Devildriver, The Cancer Bats & Legacy of Disorder. On November 2nd the band treated us with their appearance at the Marquee Theater here in Tempe, Arizona.
The whole entire line up on the tour was awesome. Legacy of Disorder & The Cancer Bats were great live. As always Devildriver was amazing and had a great set list. Finally the moment every freak that attended the show was waiting for arrived. Gwar hit the stage and as expected completely soaked the crowd in blood. Their stage antics and characters were hilarious. Not only did they have President Obama decapitated on stage but they also managed to have Gods voice present during their set crucify Jesus & some how have him come back to life as Cyborg Jesus it was incredible. Now that show was very important to the band because it was the Eve of Cory Smoot’s passing anniversary. The band played “Carry on Wayward Son,” a Kansas Cover in his honor. Their performance was absolutely killer and hilarious to watch, all fans are glad to see them back on the road.
Their set list for the night was Horror of Yig, Womb With a View, Madness at the Core of Time, Saddam a Go-Go, Bring Back the Bomb, Black and Huge, Krosstika, Metal Metal Land, Immortal Corrupter, The Years Without Light, Let Us Slay, Have You Seen Me?, Hail, Genocide!, War Is All We Know, A Short History of the End of the World, Rock & Roll Never Felt So Good, Whargoul, Carry on Wayward Son (Kansas cover), Sick of You.”
Here are some pictures we took during their set.
The Age of Metal was able to speak to the one and only Oderus Urungus literally 5 minutes before they hit the stage. This is our conversation with Oderus about the band, future album plans and much much more.
