Michel “Away” Langevin of Voivod Talks to The Age of Metal

DIMMU BORGIR - Interdimensional Summit

Voivod are legends. They are flat out underrated, brilliant legends. It’s been three years since 2009’s Infini, and since those three years they’ve brought back old bassist Jean-Yves “Blacky” Theriault and newcomer Daniel “Chewy” Mongrain. But now they’re back with a new album coming out next year, Target Earth, and it appears as if their best days are still ahead.

The Nothingface Trilogy will go down in history as some of the best releases from any metal band ever, particularly the first release on that trilogy, Dimension Hatross. However, this band has seen a lot of strife over their 30 years in existence, particularly the death of their guitarist, Denis “Piggy” D’Amour. The fact that Target Earth sounds so good so far just shows how much vitality remains in this band, and the return of Blacky and newcomer Chewy add a great deal. I’m not complaining that Target Earth reminds me of Dimension Hatross either. We talked to drummer/art director Away about the new record, how 30 years has affected them as a band, and much more. The interview is below.
