Black Tusk is a band that not many people know of but definitely should. Being from the town of Savannah, Georgia, Black Tusk plays some of the most sludgest metal I have ever heard. I had the chance of seeing them live for the first time ever on Friday March 16th at Chasers Nightclub and boy did they rock the house. Going up against bands such as the godly Intronaut or the band East of the Wall is no easy task but they pulled it off with flying colours.
Jonathan Athon, James May and Andrew Fidler all brought out the best they could and I was pleasantly surprised at how well they played on stage and the energy they gave to the audience.
They played for about 45 minutes and they blew me away as soon the lights when down. The stage was a good size and Black Tusk used every inch to run around, head bang, and move their instruments to the point where they probably hit the ceiling a few. Overall it was a great show and Black Tusk brought their southern sludge to the desert.
During their show on March 16th at Chasers Nightclub I was able to talk to bassist of Black Tusk Jonathan Athon before they went. We talked of the tour, the fans, their signature swamp metal sound, the album, and being on a label like Relapse.
