ChThonic (Thonic) is a Taiwanese band of “Orient Metal” that has been revolutionizing the metal scene since their beginnings back in 1995. Their music takes roots from black and death metal with a highly influence of traditional oriental sounds. The band recently released their 6th studio album, Takasago Army, the last part of a trilogy of concept albums that begun with Seediq Bale in 2005.
The album tell the story of the Taiwanese army that fought side by side with the Imperial Japanese army during WWII, exposing the moment that Taiwan was living at the time, Takasago Army is the best record that the band has put out so far. The Age Of Metal had the chance to chat with Freddy Lim (Vocalist) about the album, their current North American Tour with Arch Enemy, DevilDriver, and SkeletonWitch and the current state of the band. ChThonic always has been political active about Taiwan’s Independence, and Tibet’s Freedom, how has been the response of the fans to this activities and what kind of trouble have the band got into for those ideas?
A couple of years back the band played a free show in Tibet, and meet his holiness the Dalai Lama, how was the experience of meeting him, and how did he received your music?
The Taiwanese metal scene has bloomed in the past two decades with bands like Infernal Chaos, Bazooka and ChThonic, how do you see the metal scene in Taiwan today and what is ChThonic bringing to it?
On October 22 you will be playing on Sing Ling temple in Taiwan, and Randy Blythe of Lamb of God will be joining you for this date, what can you tell us about this event? and what can the public assisting can expect of the event?
You are an inspiration for many young people in Taiwan and around the world to keep going after their dreams. What would you tell people about that?
