Icelandic death metal cult ZHRINE (featuring members of black metal luminaries SVARTIDAUDI) have announced their first official North American appearance. The band have been slated to play this year’s Maryland Deathfest, on Sunday, May 29 at the Ram’s Head venue. More information about the event can found here.
ZHRINE are touring in support of their new album, ‘Unortheta’. The album, hailed as “a churning black/death vortex that takes the disgusting atonality of avant-garders like BLUT AUS NORD, melds it with the oppressively frigid atmosphere of SVARTIDAUDI, and folds in fetid layers of doom and psychedelia for good measure” (Decibel) and “an imposing, dissonant mass of unorthodox death, heavily atmospheric and weirdly progressive” (Noisey) is streaming here.
Regarding the appearance, the band comments:
“Zhrine is honored by the addition to the already stellar MDF line-up this year. On this, our first skip across the pond, we can only hope to live up to the glowing reviews our Season of Mist debut has been getting stateside with an equally praiseworthy performance of our signature brand of dissonant death.”
The album art for ‘Unortheta’, by Zbigniew M. Bielak (WATAIN, BEHEMOTH, GORGUTS, GHOST), and an official track list can be found below. ‘Unortheta’ is available for pre-order at the Season of Mist E-Shop.
ZHRINE previously announced an official album release show. The performance sees the band playing ‘Unortheta’ in full on May 20 in London, at Camden’s Black Heart venue. More information about the album release show can be found here.
ZHRINE was founded in Kópavogur, Iceland in 2008, and soon began creating waves in the underground scene under their original name SHRINE, and a unique take on experimental and atmospheric death metal.
ZHRINE have since cut their teeth in the local Icelandic scene, having made multiple appearances at the Eistnaflug Festival, Iceland Airwaves Festival, and Wacken in Germany.
