Super group is a word that today has been thrown around to those bands that feature members of disbanded groups that were quite popular a decade or two ago. But the really misinterpretation of such term is that often these members just want to jam together and try something different from what they did with their original bands. That is the case of Kill Devil Hill a band that features Vinnie Appice (Black Sabbath, DIO, Heaven & Hell), Mark Zavon, Dewey Bragg (ex-Pissing Razors), and Rex Brown (Pantera).
Kill Devil Hill was created in 2011 and have released two studio albums so far. Their latest Revolution Rise was released the past October 29th via Century Media Records. The band’s style is pure heavy metal at its finest. They don’t sound like Pantera or Black Sabbath, their sound is more like a combination of southern rock, metal, and something else. Last week they played the Club Red here in Tempe, AZ, and delivered a hell of a show. Everything on this band sounds heavy, from Mark‘s guitar to Rex‘s bass, to Vinnie‘s drum parts. But without doubt the vocal range of Dewey Bragg would leave you speechless.
Kill Devil Hill played a mixed set of that included songs from their self titled début album Kill Devil Hill (We’re all gonna die, War Machine, Rise From The Shadows, Hangman, Stealing Days, & Strange) and of course songs from their brand new record Revolution Rise (No Way Out, Crown Of Thorns, Why, Leave It All Behind, Wake Up The Dead, Long Away From Home, & Life Goes On) Their show definitely is big, loud and breaths metal in so many ways, from Dewey‘s Kill Devil Hill microphone stand to the stack of Hartke amps used by Rex, to Vinnie‘s killer drum solo.
Overall it was a great show by a band that delivers unadulterated heavy metal of the finest quality. Before the show we had the chance to speak with Dewey Bragg and Vinnie Appice about the band’s sound, their new album Revolution Rise, the tour, and much more.
