Unless you were living under a rock during the last two years, by now you should know about ReVamp, as the band of Nightwish’s new vocalist Floor Jansen (ex-After Forever). The band was created in 2010 and released their self-titled début album the same year, in 2013 ReVamp released their second album Wild Card, and toured Europe supporting Kamelot.
This year the band embarked in the first ever North American tour, supporting Iced Earth on their Plagues Of Babylon tour, along with Swedish metallers Sabaton. So, when I heard they were coming to Tempe, AZ I knew I have to see that for myself. Floor Jansen was amazing singing with Nightwish in the 2012 show that came through town, but I needed it to see what ReVamp was like live, as their album, Wild Card, impressed me a lot last year.
ReVamp kicked off their show around 7:30 pm last Thursday night at Club Red, opening with the title track of the album, Wild Card, which was the song that blew my mind as her grunting vocals sounded great on the album, that same sound is 100 times more powerful live. Their set continued with The Anatomy Of A Nervous Break Down: The Limbic System, and Head Up High, a song out of their first album. By then the crown went nuts, with the front of the venue totally packed and singing their guts out.
The Anatomy Of A Nervous Break Down: Neurasthenia, the song that included a duet between Floor and Devin Townsend was up next, followed by In Sickness ‘Till Death Do Us Part: Disdain out of their début album, and because their set is short on this tour (30 minutes), ReVamp closed with Wolf And Dog, out of Wild Card.
Saying that it was a good show, is not doing justice to the powerful performance that the band delivered, not only ReVamp showed how good and tight they sound live, but definitely their music impacted the crowd that showed a great response during their set. After their show, their merch booth was buzzing a lot, with curious new and old fans getting their ReVamp souvenirs, and taking pictures and selfies with the band. Really amazing show from a band we hope to see again, hopefully with a longer set next time.
Before their show, The Age Of Metal talked with vocalist Floor Jansen. We talked about the tour, Wild Card, her experience working with two bands and more.
