Like coming out of a Victorian horror nightmare, the symphonic death metal sound of Fleshgod Apocalypse has grabbed by the neck the attention of the international metal scene during the last 5 years. With only three studio albums out this band had already consolidated a trademark sound and reputation by themselves.
Last Thursday night, Mosh Pit Army presented The Conquerors Of The World tour featuring Septicflesh, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Black Crown Initiated, and Necronomicon here in Phoenix, AZ. Fleshgod Apocalypse took the stage around 9:20 pm. Their set was the result of a good balance of songs from their new album Labyrinth (2013), and songs from their previous released Agony (2009).
Songs like, Temptation, The Hypocrisy, The Violation, and The Egoism were received quite well by a crowd that was over excited to having them on stage. As expected, songs from the new album, Labyrinth, were something the people were expecting. They delivered, Minotaur (Wrath Of Poseidon), Pathfinder, and Kingborn, which got great reactions from the crowd that moshed their way through those songs. Personally, I was expecting something like The Fall Of Asterion, or Under Black Sails. Maybe next time we could be able to hear some of that.
Overall, it was a good set that showed the never-ending level of musicianship that this Italian guys had achieved with every record they have released. The image they have on stage, combined with the insanity of their music is just mind-blowing. Definitely one of those bands worth to experience live.
Before their set we had the chance to speak with Tomasso Riccardi, guitar player and vocalist of Fleshgod Apocalypse. We talked about the balance left after this North American trek, their new album, their interesting merch (if you don’t know, they have Fleshgod Apocalypse‘s pastas & wines), we also talked about their first time experiences in Asia and Central America, and what is next for them.
