The Resistance – Rise From Treason EP (2013)

In 2011 Jesper Strömblad (ex-In Flames, Ceremonial Oath & Sinergy) decided to form a new band, with the aid of Glenn Ljungström (ex-In Flames), Marco Aro (ex-The Haunted) and Chris Barkensjö (Carnal Forge), The Resistance was created.

On their new EP titled Rise From TreasonThe Resistance blends Melodic Death Metal and Hardcore to a new level of raw brutality and insane force. The EP opens with the song My Fire a destructive rendition that would rip out your ears. The guitars and vocals are just so strong and pushed to extreme that would make you mosh all your energy out. Face To Face, is one hell of a song, and my favorite out of the four tracks. Really heavy, fast and violent that you would want punch people in the face with it.

The title track of the EP, Rise From Treason continues to inflict punishment to your ears over and over. Really good riffs, awesome bass lines, and the voice of Aro is just so powerful and different to what he usually sounds on his previous works. Slugger is the most hardcore oriented track of the EP, really fast, raw and full of fire up energy.

Indeed this new adventure of Strömblad & company is really a good start of something fresh that takes root in the old good Swedish melodic death sound infused with just the right amount of Hardcore to make it explosive and toxic to your ears. Looking forward to hear a whole album by The Resistance to have a better grasp of this new idea, but for now is good to get into the mosh pit and smash some skulls.
