For anyone who’s a death metal fan, you know Cryptopsy is iconic. From their career spanning over twenty years, they originally stood out by introducing an inhuman sound that was way ahead of its time. While they continue to produce material with ample amounts of vigor and dexterity, there is one main component that claims this band perpetual: they take more time to focus on fan participation. It is because of this passion for their solid fan base that allows them to stand out from other bands of this genre.
With the introduction of their self-released EP The Book of Suffering: Tome 1 fans get to donate to the recording’s cause while also taking something out of it for their own selves. This is the first EP amongst several, so fans can expect Cryptopsy releases for years to come. And all of this is only possible with the fans’ support.
It already looks like 2015 will be a big year for Cryptopsy. With The Book of Suffering: Tome 1 already mastered, the EP is expected release this year. The band is currently embarking on the Back to the U.S. Tour. Cryptopsy live is an experience like no other; their signature chaotic sound comes to life as a unrelentless monster. The crowd was belligerent as the band spewed out their insanity. Seeing members such as Flo Mounier performing flawlessly and hearing vocalist Matt McGachy‘s ridiculous growls was unreal. For anyone who hasn’t had the Cryptopsy live experience I beckon you experience this beast at its most brutal.
The Age of Metal got with Cryptopsy while they were on the Back to the U.S. Tour. In the interview they discuss the tour, the writing of The Book of Suffering: Tome 1 and their experience taking the DIY approach to releasing the EP.
