A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure to see live one of the most important thrash metal bands of the 80’s, during their first ever North American tour. I am talking about UK’s very own Onslaught a band that was form at the same time that the San Francisco Bay area thrash movement (Metallica, Testament, Death Angel & Slayer) was conquering America, and the German big 3 (Kreator, Sodom & Destruction) were doing their part in Europe. Onslaught was the British response to those rising thrash metal movements.
Their sound was not a reflection from the bay area or from the German contra part. They were something different then, still thrash metal but with a middle sound, the perfect clash between sounds. Onslaught has being through a lot of line up changes since the 80’s and a long hiatus, but it was until 2004 that the band got together again and recorded their 4th album Killing Peace that was release in 2007 followed by Sounds Of Violence last year under AFM records.
I got the chance to sit with Sy Keeler (vocals) and talk about their latest album, the tour, the future plans of the band and their opinion on the thrash metal scene today.
