The Southwest Terror Fest is a two-day festival covering the best of Arizona’s metal scene with some of the best bands from the underground playing in an intimate setting over two days in Tucson, AZ. The Age of Metal is partnering with the folks from The Southwest Terror Fest to give you a primer of all of the bands playing. Today we look at another Saturday headliner: Sons of Tonatiuh.
Band name : Sons of Tonatiuh
Where are you from?
We are from Atlanta, GA
What do you sound like?
Like the coming of Christ riding a big red goat. If there was a soundtrack for that.
How did you get involved with Southwest Terror Fest?
We were invited by David Rodgers.
What do you think of Arizona’s metal crowd in general?
We’ve never played Az unless Lake Havasu City is considered part of it which was more or less a diy show we played in front of a bunch of 12 year olds in a warehouse in the middle of summer. So I really can’t answer this question.
What’s the most ridiculous thing that’s happened to your band?
Probably the highlight would be playing a bar once and a drunk coming up to the mic and singing while we were playing. This ended up badly with the drunk getting slammed to the floor by the sound guy with the PA being knocked over glass breaking everywhere and me getting wrapped up in guitar and speaker cords. Other than that, we played a rock-a-billy show once. That did not go over too well.
How has your sound changed over time?
For the better… Probably from a straight sludge sound to more of a unique doom/crust/punk influence delving into more complex song structure.
Is there a place we can hear your music online?
