At the NAMM Show 2016, The Age of Metal was invited to be a guest at the She Rocks Awards ceremony. The contributions of several notorious women were celebrated by the Women’s International Music Network (WIMN). This is an awards show that celebrates women in the music industry, ranging from female musicians to other professions such as audio engineering and publicity.
Every year the show awards iconic women in the industry, along with having entertainment from female musicians. Women such as Leslie Ann Jones and Sujata Murthy make it possible for women to have a place in the music industry. The show this year was co-hosted by Alice Cooper guitarist Nita Strauss. Along with recognizing women for their contributions to the music industry, guests were also entertained with live performances from legendary women such as Jennifer Batten and Janie L. Hendrix. There isn’t much more anyone could ask from during an exciting and groundbreaking show!
The WIMN has been taking strides to recognize powerful women in the music industry. They have been the biggest factor in promoting and encouraging women to pursue a career in the music industry. The She Rocks Awards have been hosted at the winter NAMM show to further commemorate those women. It’s easy to ignore the female figures in a male-dominated industry. This show has been only received with positivity, since there are so many amazing women in this industry and playing in a boy’s field is difficult for women. But these kinds of events remind us that gender shouldn’t be a question in those who keep the music industry alive. Long live women in music!
