Sami Hinkka of Ensiferum speaks with the Age of Metal

DIMMU BORGIR - Eonian

Coming from Finland, Ensiferum has become one of the better known faces in Folk Metal. Their brand of mixing folk with Viking and Melodic Death Metal became a common staple in their sound. Ensiferum were started in 1995 by  Markus Toivonen, Sauli Savolainen and Kimmo Miettinen where Jari Mäenpää of Wintersun fame took over vocals. In 2004 Jari left and Petri Lindroos of the band Norther took up the mantle. In 2012 Ensiferum released their fifth studio offering Unsung Heroes which has garnered many favourable reviews. They are currently on tour around mainland Europe.

We did an interview with bassist and backing vocalist Sami Hinkka of Ensiferum recently. In it we talked of their tour in Europe, thoughts on the current scene of Folk metal, their new album Unsung Heroes and their writing style and influences. check out our interview below!
