Ensiferum is without doubt one of the pioneer bands in the folk/pagan metal genre, many bands wants to sound, look, and be like them. But truth to be told, they are unique as they carry that trademark that they created many years ago. They are currently touring North America on the Paganfest America Tour 2013 along with bands like TYR, Heidevolk and Trollfest.
Last week they made a stop here in Tempe, AZ and gave us an unforgettable show full of new songs from their latest album Unsung Heroes (Symbols, In My Sword I Trust, Burning Leaves, and Retribution Shall Be Mine) I was personally waiting for an encore of Bamboleo (Gypsy Kings‘s cover) but it didn’t happen. They played some old songs that are dear to their fan base (Guardians Of Fate, From Afar, One More Magic Potion, Tale Of Revenge, Lai Lai Hei, Twilight Tavern, Iron, and Battle Song). Even though the sound at the venue was not the greatest (every band had a problem with it) and their show ended up around 2 am, it was a great show, Ensiferum sounded amazing, and the new songs are powerful live as they are on the new album.
Before the show The Age Of Metal caught up with Sami Hinkka bass player of Ensiferum, We talked about Paganfest America, Unsung Heroes, their first South American tour, a prospect DVD and the possibility of a new album very soon.
Here are some of the pictures from that show
