Intronaut is one of those bands I’ve waited literally years to see. I was honestly scared that I would totally miss my opportunity to see them during this album cycle (Valley of Smoke’s been out for two years now). Luckily, they did one last run through the Southwest before holing up to write their next record – and one of those stops was at Chasers Nightclub in Scottsdale, AZ. Needless to say, when they announced the tour, I nearly cried (seriously). Not only do I get to see one of my favorite bands play at such an intimate place, I get to see them headline with Black Tusk (who rule) and East of the Wall (also a band I wanted to see for a long time).
And they totally dazzled. They played stuff mainly from Valley of Smoke (Elegy, Above, Miasma, Core Relations, Past Tense), but they did play a couple from Prehistoricisms too for us older fans (Primordial Soup/The Literal Black Cloud and Any Port). They really don’t need stage presence; their music puts you in an entirely different place. Even the dolphin on stage could be ignored.
I had the privilege to speak with frontman Sacha Dunable about this tour, their most recent jaunt with Tool, and the new record.
