Canadian progressive metal band Protest The Hero, has become quite the revelation in the ‘Modern Metal’ circuit as their music arise on popularity, and their shows are regularly packed. An example of their popularity among young fans was the fact that their Indiegogo crown funding campaign for their new album Volition was reached within 30 hours after launched, and by the end of it the band had collected double the amount originally proposed.
Their musical proposal which is based on a mixture of progressive & Djent metal that combined with the connection that the band has with the younger generation and their cultural trends has been Protest The Hero‘s key to success in the current music industry. For their new album, Volition, the band used the services of Lamb Of God‘s drummer Chris Adler who lay down the drum tracks on the entire album, and most recently they announced Mike Leradi as their new full-time drummer.
A couple of days ago they played at Club Red here in Tempe,AZ as part of their fall North American trek along with UK’s Architechs, The Kindred (formerly known as Today I Caught The Plague), and Affiance. Once again their show was packed, even thought it was a Monday night their loyal fans came down to check out the band’s new material and to have a hell of a party. Some of the new songs played at the show were; Underbite, Mist, Tilting Against Windmills, and Clarity. There was also some material from their regular catalog like; Hair-Trigger, Sequoia Throne, Bury The Hatchet, Sex Tapes, Bloodmeat and Blindfolds Aside.
Previous to their show here, Rody Walker frontman of Protest The Hero spoke with us about the tour, the Indiegogo campaign for Volition, the geeky video clip for the song Clarity, and what is next for the band.
