Last year came as a revelation that the latest line up of Thin Lizzy wanted to record a new album, but with respect to the legacy created by the band since the late 70’s, it was decided that was best to record it under a different name. And that is how Black Star Riders was born.
The line up was almost the same as the latest Thin Lizzy line up with, Ricky Warwick on vocals/guitar, Scott Gorham on guitar, Damon Johnson on guitar, Marco Mendoza on bass guitar, and the induction of Jimmy DeGrasso on drums, replacing drummer Brian Downey, it was not a mention of keyboards for this band.
At the end of May 2013 the band released their début album All Hell Breaks Loose. The promotional touring had to wait as the band had to finish some Thin Lizzy commitments. In November 2013 they toured Europe and currently they are touring North America.
Their show made a stop in Tempe, AZ last Friday (05/09/14) at the Marquee Theater. From beginning to end, their whole set was a transcendent experience. They played songs like; Kingdom Of The Lost, Bound For Glory, All Hell Breaks Loose, and Hey Judas out of their new album. Their set was mixed with Thin Lizzy classics like; Emerald, Jail Break, Whiskey In The Jar, and The Boys Are Back. That the crowd enjoyed and cheer on each song, regardless if it was Black Star Raiders or Thin Lizzy. It was an impressive experience, as not everyday a legendary band that forged the bases of rock and heavy metal comes through town.
The Age Of Metal has the chance to speak with vocalist & guitar player Ricky Warwick. We talked about their current US Tour, the reception of All Hell Breaks Loose, their plans for a new album, and much more.
