Ravn of 1349 checked in with The Age Of Metal

Some bands change with the time, some transform their sound in million different ways, and some just stay loyal to the one sound they created since album one and yet they have the skills to make it sound fresh and better every time. The latter is the case of 1349, who last year released their sixth studio album, Massive Cauldron Of Chaos, A black metal album that has all the elements of a traditional Norwegian black metal album, its fast, grim, and dark as fuck, but yet it managed to sound fresh, and connected with today’s state of the genre.

1349 is about to wrap up their Chaos Rides USA tour 2015 this week, and they recently stopped here in Phoenix, AZ to gives us a sampler of what that albums sounds live, as they delivered five songs (Slaves, Exorcism, Postmortem, Golem & Cauldron) from Massive Cauldron Of Chaos during their show at Joe’s Grotto in Phoenix, AZ. The tour package is quite complex as includes new combers Wolvhammer, which had a fair set of American black metal, Abysmal Dawn, who delivered a killer set with new songs from their new album Obsolescence, Origin which is a tech death metal band, that to be honest should be an instrumental band as their vocals didn’t quite fit with the musical quality of the rest of band, and of course 1349.

Besides those above mentioned songs from the new album, 1349 also played Riders of the Apocalypse out of the Revelations album (2001), followed by Nekronatalenheten out of the Beyond The Apocalypse album (2004),  with Sculptor Of Flesh & I Am Abomination they revisited the Hellfire album (2005), then with Serpentine Sibilance they paid tribute to the Revelation Of The Black Flame (2009) and we had the pleasure to listen When I Was Flesh & Atomic Chapel out of the Demonoir album (2010). Overall it was a significative show compared with what we experienced from them last year during the Metal Alliance tour 2014.

Before their show we had a chat with vocalist Ravn of 1349. We talked about Massive Cauldron Of Chaos, touring America, their new beer 1349 Black Ale, and what is next for 1349 in 2015.
