Oscar Dronjak of Hammerfall talks about Built to Last

Hammerfall -18

The Templars of Metal have returned to the international spotlight and with them their new album Built to Last. Following the incredible success of (r)Evolution, Hammerfall drops yet another great piece of heavy metal goodness. Their new album Built to Last will be released on Nov. 4 via Napalm Records.

For the last 23 years, Hammerfall has been the connection point between the 80’s golden age of heavy metal and the modern state of heavy metal. It was Hammerfall who with the release of their albums  Glory Of The Brave (1997) and Legacy of Kings (1998) brought back the epicness of heavy metal to a genre invaded by grunge and nu-metal tendencies at the time.

Built to Last continues the path that the band started with their latest album (r)Evolution, heavy riffs, epic choruses and overall fun music to headbang and sing along. Songs like Hammer High, The Sacred Vow, Stormbreaker, Built to Last are the best example of what this new Hammerfall album is all about.

It is interesting to see how even when Hammerfall has their sound so defined there is space for experimentation, just listen to songs like New Breed, Twilight Princess (not Zelda related), or Second to None. Definitely a great new record from one of the top heavy metal bands in the scene.

With the release of the album, Hammerfall is getting ready to be busy in 2017 as they are kicking off the new year with a European tour followed with their return to the North American roads and stages after 7 years. We got a taste of Hammerfall epic music at 70000 Tons of Metal early this year, but I am personally curious about how some of the new songs are going to sound live.

To expand more on Built to Last we spoke with Hammerfall‘s guitar player and founding member Oscar Dronjak about the ideas behind the album, their European tour and their return to the North American stages after 7 years of absence.
