Last Friday I had the pleasure to see for the first time (I know, I am late on this) the performance of Royal Thunder as they are now on tour supporting Baroness. Their music is simple yet eclectic, to the point on which the heavy parts became glamorous and enjoyable without the pushing and pulling of the moshing mob, Some sort ‘Heavy Tranquility’.
Royal Thunder put a great show at the Club Red here in Tempe, AZ. playing songs out of their latest album CVI (No Good, Whispering World, Blue, Parsonz Curse, and Shake And Fit among others) With the house partially full as the crowd came down to hear their music, but they also came down to witness the return of Baroness to the valley after their tragic accident in Britain last year. Both bands put a great show, and received a warm response from the crowd that filled the venue to its largest capability. So it was a show worth seeing.
Before the show The Age Of Metal had the pleasure to speak with Miny & Josh of Royal Thunder. We talked about their touring experience with Baroness, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Enslaved, the response of CVI, Women in metal, the idea behind the video clip for the song Blue and much more.
