It’s been almost 10 years since Martijn Westerholt and Charlotte Wessels decided to join forces and created Delain, their first album Lucidity was released in 2006 creating an impact in the European metal scene at the time not only because of their innovating style, but also because of the variety of metal artists that the band had as guesses it the album, including Marco Hietala (Nightwish/Tarot), Liv Kristine (Leaves Eyes), Sharon Den Adel (Within Temptation) among others.
After some touring and their participation on some European festivals including Graspop Metal Meeting and Metal Female Voices Festival in Belgium, the band got back in studio to record their second studio album April Rain in 2009, an album that was highly acclaimed by fans and press. Following the released of the album the band did some heavy touring in Europe including a second presentation at Graspop Metal Meeting, and their first appearance at the famous Wacken Open Air in Germany. Then for the first time the band played an exclusive show in America at ProgPower USA in Atlanta, followed by a couple of shows in Brazil.
This year Delain returned with their third studio album We Are The Others a powerful and emotional album that reflects the evolution of the band. The Age Of Metal had the chance to speak with Martijn Westerholt keyboardist and founding member of Delain about the band’s progression, We Are The Others, touring, and their future plans.
