Moonbathers is Delain‘s 5th studio album and by far the heaviest record they have released as to date. Moonbathers‘s continues where The Human Contradiction left off. Even though the sound is quite similar we must argue that this new album has more punch and more aggressiveness as guitar players Timo Somers and new guitar player Merel Bechtold both brings powerful guitar licks to each one of the songs and Charlotte Wessels‘s new growling vocals definitely, adds a dark aura to the album.
Regardless of how heavy the album is Delain manages to keep the melodic part as a fundamental piece on Moonbathers which balances the album and makes it more friendly and emotional to those who prefer the band’s soft side. Songs like: The Hurricane, Chrysalis – The Last Breath, Pendulum, and Danse Macabre had that melodic touch on them. The heavy parts of the album can easily be found on songs like Hands Of Gold which features Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), The Glory and The Scum, and Fire with Fire.
To have a better understanding of Moonbathers, we chat with Martijn Westerholt keyboardist and founder member of Delain. We talked with Martijn about the production of Moonbathers, the cover of Queen‘s track ‘Scandal‘, the pledge music campaign, the European tour with Evergrey and Kobra and the Lotus and the tentative headlining US tour for 2017.
