Being a musician on an international touring band nowadays is not an easy thing to do, now imagine being a musician on two international touring bands, and now add the great idea of those two bands to tour together the United States. How do you go about that?
Well, Markus Vanhala guitar player for Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum is doing exactly that, currently they are finishing a North American tour, and for the past 4 weeks Markus had played for both bands back to back every night with a 20 minute break between sets. Plus he also comes out after the show is over and meet fans, signs stuff and poses for pictures before hopping back on the bus towards the next city, If that is not commitment, I don’t know what that is.
Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum besides having Markus in common, they are both from Finland and their musical styles are similar. So if on this remaining days they are coming to a town near you, check them out, their shows are quite something. To commemorate this tour Century Media released a 7 inch split vinyl including one song from each band and limited to 500 copies that is being sold only on this tour at their merch table.
During the tour stop here in Mesa, AZ we talked to Markus Vanhala about his experience playing guitar for bands on this tour, what is new with Insomnium, the upcoming album of Omnium Gatherum (to be released in 2016), how the idea of a 7 inch split vinyl came to be, and much more.
