Machine Head – Bloodstones & Diamonds (2014)

Can you believe Machine Head has been around for the last 23 years?! The line up has changed quite a few times, leaving front man/ guitarist, Robb Flynn as the last remaining original member. Joined by Phil Demmel on guitar / back up vocals, Dave McClain on drums, and recently replacing Adam Duce, as their newest bass player, Jared MacEachem (from Sanctity). Bloodstones And Diamonds will be the 8th album to date, released this past August 2014.

This record just proves it self to be a very technical and groovy piece. The opening song, which currently seems to be a pretty popular hit right now on the local radio station, Now We Die starts the album off strong. I honestly had to listen to the whole CD several times in order to decide if I liked the rest of the songs as much. I truly feel like there is no other possible way to describe the album in its entirety other than purely and epicly chaotic! Each and every one of these songs have such a different style to them, but it is still pretty catchy- and I DO like it! Robb‘s vocals range from clean to dirty, raspy death growls, all the while harmonizing with instrumental elements simply make the album. This dynamic style really does keep you on your toes!

For example; Eye of the Dead is a real sadistic roller coaster of emotion. The mix of thrash/ groove/ with a sense of rock and roll brings Bloodstones And Diamonds to a very progressive theme – almost as if it were a soundtrack to a bad ass movie! The album art  also speaks for itself, as it is just as dark and intricate as the record. I cant help but listen to it over and over again.

Machine Head literally just  kicked off their tour in Stockholm Sweden, December 1st and will be starting their North America portion right here in Mesa, Arizona at the new Club Red, January 16th 2015.
