Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody is currently touring North America along with German power metal act Primal Fear as part of a co-headlining tour that has over 25 dates. Many of those dates are new for Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody as this is their first major tour in North America so far. One of those new dates was last Sunday at Club Red in Mesa, AZ.
The show in Mesa, AZ was scheduled for a Sunday and the expectations about a larger attendance were low because the date. Nevertheless, once we arrived at Club Red there was a line and people were ready for a night full of power metal.
After local openers Luminatus & Deminura played their sets, it was time for the Primal Fear to grace us with their presence and the début of new songs from their new album Rulebreaker and some classics like Angel In Black, Sign of Fear, Nuclear Fire, Chainbreaker and Running in the Dust. Their show was praised by the crowd and it saw a better attendance from the one they played last time at Club Red’s old site in 2014.
Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody was next and they didn’t disappoint the fans that have waited for them to come to North America for quite a while. Their set was a mix of their first album Ascending to Infinity (2012), their new album Prometheus Symphonia Ignus Divinus (2015), a handful of songs from the Rhapsody of Fire days, and one song from Luca Turilli‘s solo albums. Some of the songs included in the Mesa, AZ show were: Rosenkreuz (The Rose And The Cross), Prometheus, IL Cigno Nero, Of Michael The Archangel And Lucifer’s Fall, Quantum X, and Demonheart (from the Luca Turilli‘s solo album Demonheart of 2002). Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody also performed Land Of Immortals, Dawn of Victory, Emerald Sword and Unholy Warcry from his time with Rhapsody of Fire.
For being a Sunday the show didn’t have a bad turnout, and the people who were present were either familiar with the band or they got the chance to get exposed to their music for the first time. Overall it was important to have a band like Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody play in AZ for the first time, and we hope this tour is the first of many for this amazing Italian band.
Before the show we spoke with Luca Turilli about the tour, the response from the fans, his neoclassical guitar course online, and much more.
