Legion of the Damned – Ravenous Plague (2014)

Legion of the Damned just released their newest album Ravenous Plague this year. The occult thrashers know how to bring on the insanity. Their newest release is full of vigorous brutality. This isn’t the greatest thrash act I’ve heard as of recently, because I feel their material is a bit too repetitive. But with their aggressive style of playing, I can honestly say this band writes the headbang anthem.

Ravenous Plague is full of speed. You experience this with a track such as Howling for Armageddon. This track contains an inhuman velocity with growling vocals that sound like pure evil. There are also tracks that follow this equation, but are much catchier. Summon All Hate is one of them; the opening riff will stick to you throughout the song, and will force you to keep coming back.

Then there are tracks that contain a more old-school thrash feel, such as Armalite Assassin. The belligerent yet intricate-written riffs will coerce you to annihilate everything in your wake. The album ends with Strike of the Apocalypse. This provoking track is the perfect way to end this wrathful album.

This warlike band is fun, but I can honestly say I wasn’t too impressed. The album was definitely energetic, but it wasn’t anything too intense. Overall, I don’t find this band too monstrous to label them as the “next big thrash act.” I will say this – I bet they’re a fun band to see live. Insane thrash acts are some of the best shows, and I feel these guys will live up to that.

Legion of the Damned continues the head banging legacy with this release. I feel this would be a fun band to see live. As far as the recordings go, they don’t stick with me as much and I feel the songwriting is a bit too repetitive. Hopefully they will tour the states soon and have me change my mind. But if you’re a head banging thrash fanatic, then raise your beer and hail Legion of the Damned!
