There is not doubt that Jørn Lande is one of the most iconic vocalists in metal, his solo work and his past work with bands like Masterplan or Avantasia speaks for itself. Jørn Lande‘s work is the representation of a true passion not only for metal but for the art of singing. One of the features that characterize Jørn Lande‘s work is the fact that every cover song that he gets his hands on, it ended up a tribute to the original.
This year Jørn Lande is releasing a compilation of covers titled, Heavy Rock Radio, which is a hand-picked selection of covers that have influenced Jørn through his early years. Heavy Rock Radio includes renditions like The Eagles‘ ‘Hotel California‘, John Farnham‘s ‘You’re The Voice‘, Queen‘s ‘Killer Queen‘, Kate Bush‘s ‘Running Up That Hill‘, Foreigner‘s ‘Rev On The Red Line‘ and Journey‘s ‘Don’t Stop Believe In‘. among others
But, there are some songs that will surprise you as some of them are not your typical classic song. I am talking about the cover that Jørn did of Iron Maiden‘s ‘The Final Frontier‘, which is not a classic song, but once you listen, Jørn‘s version you will realized what a nice tribute Jørn Lande presents to Maiden.
The Age of Metal talked to Jørn Lande about this new album Heavy Rock Radio, his previous album Dracula: Swing of Death, his live performances with Avantasia, and what is next for Jørn Lande.
