It’s not doubt that Enslaved is one of the most important bands in the extreme metal spectrum. Formed back in the early 90’s, the band shares the same past as bands like Mayhem, Burzum or Dark Throne. But the difference is that Enslaved understood the idea behind making music, and thanks to that they had survived and evolve into a more complex band.
Last time I saw Enslaved was back in 2010 when they toured with Dimmu Borgir, as they were promoting the Axioma Ethica Odini album. This time around they are touring in support of their latest album Riitiir. Enslaved is a straight forward band live. No make up, no special dress, no paraphernalia, just pure and in adulterated extreme metal, that will leave you craving for more after their show. This time around they played a short but juicy set, songs like: Death in the Eyes of Dawn, Ethica Odini, RIITIIR, Allfaðr Oðinn, and Isa were enough to put the packed Club Red to headbang from beginning to end.
Before their show The Age Of Metal talked with Ivar Bjørnson, guitar player and founder member of Enslaved. We talked about this tour, the state of the band, their musical evolution, and what is in storage for Enslaved this 2014.
