Last time I saw In This Moment was a couple of years back at the old Martini Ranch in Scottsdale, AZ which was a street down from where Livewire is today, I remember being a good crowd that night, and an amazing show from the band. Forwarding to 2015, I decided to go to the Black Widow kickoff tour in Scottsdale, AZ last Tuesday night. I got to the venue around the time doors were opening (7:00pm) in order to avoid standing in line on a 100 degree weather (have in mind between the hours of 2pm & 5pm is where the temperatures tend to peak when you are in AZ). To my surprise when I arrive there still was a huge line that reached the end of the street, with more people getting added to it by the minute.
After almost an hour, I was able to get in exactly by the time The Defiled was finishing their set, so I didn’t have the chance to see them, next up was 39 Crazyfists a band that somehow ringed my ears when they name a song they released in 2004, if it wasn’t by that I didn’t even know who they were. (yeah, I don’t keep track of mainstream radio)
In This Moment took the stage around 10:45 pm opening with; The Infection, Sick Like Me & Black Widow out of their new album Black Widow. In This Moment had ranked up their image quite a bit since they released Blood (2012), they have now a custom stage & great live props that visually enhanced their show, and make their show a whole new experience, I am glad that a band is being inventing and adapting a thematic that is relevant to their lyrics to the live stage.
The show continue with Adrenalize out the Blood album, then back to Black Widow with Sex Metal Barbie (Whose video is about to hit the million views on YouTube), Burn & The Fighter. It kind of make sense that they are highlighting their new release, but there some songs that were missed during the show (The Gun Show, The Promise or A Star-Crossed Wonderland), I am not sure if In This Moment want to distance themselves from their early era, but there still some people out there that would love to listen those songs live again.
A blast from the past appeared on stage when the first notes of Into The Light came out of the PA, a song that its included on The Dream (2008) album, and a personal favorite of mine. The crowd that almost filled Livewire was pleased, following up was Fallen Heroes, Big Bad Wolf, and they closed up their show with Whore, and Blood as an encore.
A great show that saw a venue full almost to its capacity, and a band that delivered a memorable show, It’s interesting to see how hard work and passion can make things a reality, what started as a stage idea in the days before Blood was released, had grown and transform on a whole new identity for In This Moment, where they are, and they invite the crowd to be part of the show. Overall a great show, by a creative band that has know how to create their pathway within the difficult and modern music business.
