FAMILY Premieres “Floodgates” Video On Gear Gods, North American Tour Starts TODAY

Brooklyn rootsy progressive metal collective FAMILY embarks on an extensive North American tour starting today (dates below) in support of new album “Future History” which was released last week via Prosthetic Records.

Gear Gods has unveiled the band’s drum-centric video for punchy, hyperactive song “Floodgates”, directed and edited by bandleader Steven Gordon with videography by Frank Huang and showcasing Future History drummer Jody Smith.

Comments Gordon of the featured musician in the clip:

“Our posse was forever, irrevocably changed the day we met ol’ Jody Smith.  He seemed unassuming and innocent enough up front, but it was quickly apparent that this guy was the biggest maniac of us all.  A brash, outspoken madman of a thousand nicknames, captain of the ping ride, werewolf killer to the utmost degree — Jocephus appeared right when we needed him and completely flipped the script on us, both musically and personally.  Given my longtime affinity for rootsy funk music, finding a drummer from New Orleans as well-versed in the behind-the-beat grooves of Zigaboo from The Meters as the spastic technicality of Billy Rhymer from The Dillinger Escape Plan was unparalleled, and Jody’s raw distinctive style is all over Future History.  I’ve been extremely fortunate to work with great drummers in this project, and although FAMILY’s rhythmic landscape has already evolved exponentially with a mind-blowing new one (just wait ’til you guys get a glimpse of The Kid on our upcoming tour), in his tenure with the band Jody contributed dramatically to our collective’s sound and spirit.  Keep an eye out for his thrash-prog group Beast Modulus’ new album dropping this fall… “

Influenced and inspired by organic bands such as Led Zeppelin, Tool, Mastodon, and Baroness, FAMILY presents a fiercely unique blend of classic rock flavor, raw tasty grooves, progressive rhythmic patterns, and modern metal bite.  As with previous album “Portrait”, “Future History” was produced by Gordon, engineered and mixed by Justin Mantooth, and mastered by Alan Douches (Mastodon, Torche, Baroness).  The album also features guest appearances from David Castillo (Primitive Weapons, White Widows Pact), Jesse James Madre (Tiger Flowers), and Mike Keller (Meek Is Murder).

Following in the conceptual footsteps of electrifying 2012 debut “Portrait”, the story of “Future History” centers around the evolution of a divided human race.  Stylistically, the album incorporates a cinematic undertone reflecting its basis on an original screenplay co-written by Gordon.
