Skeletonwitch kicked off the year by touring with Enslaved and Amon Amarth in North America while promoting their new album Serpents Unleashed. Which was highly praised by fans and press alike, and ended up on various end of the year lists. The album itself reflects the heaviness and aggression of that the band is well-known for. No mellow pieces, not slow parts, fuck that. This is extreme raw metal at its best.
Last Saturday the band played the second show of the tour in front of a sold out Club Red here in Tempe, AZ. Unfortunately, because of the length and slowness of the line to get into the venue, we were unable to see them play. We could hear the response from the crowd while the slow line was moving, and it seems they were having a good time. From what I heard from fans after their show, they really liked the new songs live. So I guess it was a good show.
After the show we had the chance to snatch Evan Linger, bass player of Skeletonwitch for a quick interview. During the chat we talked about Serpents Unleashed, the tour with Amon Amarth & Enslaved, the hand-printed limited edition (100 copies only) LP that was released Monday (and that sold out in a matter of minutes), which funds will go to a couple animal shelters in Ohio, the band’s home state. Their first trip to Australia, and of course, what else is lined up for Skeletonwitch during this 2014.
