Reigning metal queen Doro Pesch returns after 3 years of absence with a new studio album titled Raise Your Fist, a fair challenge to her previous album Fear No Evil. With the experience of 25 years rocking scenarios all over the world under her belt. Doro‘s new album is a powerful rendition of metal, and the living proof of her love and conviction for this music.
The album opens with Raise Your Fist In The Air an explosive song that praises the gods of metal, and let out the feelings that this music awakes in us every time we hear it. Coldheart Lover, could be the anthem for those single metal heads that keep looking for that eternal partner in love and metal. Rock Till Death is a song that will inspire you to rock out the passion for this music until your very grave. It Still Hurts is a power ballad that in this case Doro sang along with non other than Lemmy (Motorhead). A great 80’s oriented song, that transmits the feelings when that once upon a time special person still haunting your life.
Take No Prisoner is one of the fastest songs in this album. Really powerful riffs, and rebellious lyrics. Grab The Bull (Last Man Standing) presents a change of balance on the album that brings more melody, and a lot of heavy guitar sound as Gus G (Firewind/Ozzy) lay down the guitar law on this track. That combined with a great work on the singing style, reflects the talent of Doro and what she is able to put in every album. Engel and Freihelt are the German-speaking quote for this album. Little Headbanger (Nackenbrecher) presents itself as an aggressive song that bring back that heaviness to the album, and bring us the to the healthy habit of headbanging a bit every day to liberate the worries of life for a second. Revenge is a fast song, full of guitar solos and fast drums. Very heavy and rocking that it will just hit you in the face. Free My Heart is another ballad that just shows the powerful and beautiful voice of Doro at its greatest. Victory is a very catchy song full of textures, echoes voices, a bit different to the traditional Doro songs, but is a really good thing that she dares to shake things up a bit. Hero closes the album with a simple but powerful song. Really soft at the beginning that built up really fast to a strong and heavy song.
Raise Your Fist is a really powerful album for an equally powerful and talented artist like Doro. The album carries that metal emotion and inspiration that I see so lost on being technical about the music today. It’s really nice to see that artists like Doro still carrying the flags of metal by playing heavy music like the one on this album. Fast, loud and rebellious.
