Dio – ‘Finding The Sacred Heart – Live in Philly’ (2013)

DESTRUCTION - Thrash Anthems II

diosacredheartdvd

A dark cloud flooded the sky on May 16th, 2010 when we lost one of the mightiest metal front men that ever was or ever will be. Just a few short weeks ago marked three years we’ve lived and breathed without Dio.. Undoubtedly, the release of Dio’s ‘Finding The Sacred Heart – Live in Philly’ DVD/CD are coming at the perfect time. This release was filmed on June 17th, 1986 during the second leg of the “Sacred Heart” tour. The sound quality was remastered and it’s nearly perfect; it quenches the craving for Dio that metalheads long for since his unfortunate passing.

There are a ton of favorites on this release. From ‘King of Rock And Roll’ to ‘Stand Up And Shout’ and everything else in between, it’ll take you back to a time before illness struck Dio. It will take you to the inside of a crowded, smoky arena full of energy and heavy metal fanatics. I swear listening to this album almost makes you see Dio himself, risen with horns in the air and a smile on his face. You can almost hear him letting us all know that we should keep the music blasting at maximum volume, that we should all keep it heavy.

One of the best parts of this release are the two medleys on the album. The first takes ‘The Last In Line’ and weaves it artfully into ‘Children Of The Sea’, ‘Holy Diver’, and back into ‘The Last in Line’ for its closing. It flows flawlessly and tastefully, almost taking you from your chair and dropping you in the audience to watch it unfold. The second medley on the album flows ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Children’ into ‘Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll then into the classic ‘Man on The Silver Mountain’ and back into ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Children’ again. Both of these are a reminder of how remarkable Dio was and still is, his voice still filling up rooms and igniting fire in the blood.  The entire band is so ON, like they were all born to perform with one another.

Dragons, castles, swords, and medieval themes are all prominent and familiar just as powerfully as they always have been on this release. The whole album is definitely one to take to the car and blast on the way to work. It’ll act as caffeine for the heart and soul, and is a perfect way to pay tribute and homage to such an important figure in the history of heavy metal. Take a moment of loudness instead of silence for Dio and purchase this release!
