Derrick Green of Sepultura talked about The Mediator with The Age Of Metal

Sepultura is back, after a couple of years of silence since the released of Kairos, the Brazilian thrash metal titans return with a new album titled The Mediator Between The Head And The Hand Must Be The Heart to be unleashed upon the world at the end of the month.

If you are familiar with early 20th century cinema, the title of the new Sepultura album might sound familiar as it was taken from the 1927 movie Metropolis directed by Fritz Lang. as explained by Sepultura‘s guitar player Andreas Kisser In the movie, a crazy millionaire wants to transform a robot into a real person. That’s kind of the opposite of what we live today. More than ever we are robotized, through the worldwide web, Google glasses, chips under our skins and the globalized slavery our society suffers nowadays.” The album is not a concept that takes on the movie, but rather is a critic to the modern world, and its dependency on technology that puts aside the human factor in society.

These ideas are channelled in the record through songs like Impending Doom, The Manipulation Of Tragedy, Bliss Of Ignorants, and Trauma Of War. Now, not only the role of technology was taken in account on this album, songs like The Vatican, and The Age Of The Atheist are strong critics to how religion is affecting the world today, also the power of nature is the driving idea on the song Tsunami as well.

The Mediator Between The Head And The Hand Must Be The Heart presents itself as a soft title for how heavy and fast the album is. It is like an anvil wrapped on a colorful box, which you wouldn’t know the content until you open it. With that been said, Sepultura is back stronger than ever.

The Age Of Metal had the chance to speak with Derrick Green frontman of Sepultura.
