Many of you might know Dan Swanö as the producer behind bands like: Marduk, Dissection, Katatonia, and Opeth. He is also a multi instrumentalist that has been in different key bands like: Edge Of Sanity, Katatonia, Bloodbath, his own solo project Moontower, and now Witherscape. But how different is this project from his previous bands and projects? You may ask.
Well to begin with, Witherscape is not only one more of Dan Swanö‘s projects. It’s his way to come back as a performer, he is also bringing a new partner with him, Ragnar Widerberg who is an unknown multi instrumentalist. Both decided to combine their talents on Witherscape after finding out their similar taste on music, and their ideas to create something new and different. The story in the first album called The Inheritance is set in Sweden during the late 1800’s. So not only it will be guaranteed amazing musicianship, but also some suspense and a story to go along with it.
Swanö describe the project as ‘fueled on their love for Judas Priest, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, and Rush’ So this project looks like a combination of progressive metal with a hint of death metal and sparkles of heavy metal. Which is obviously pretty cool.
The Age Of Metal had the chance to speak with Dan Swanö about the story of Witherscape, his journey back from producer to be in a performer, his views on producing, and much more.
