Cristina Scabbia & Andrea Ferro of Lacuna Coil discussed Broken Crown Halo

Broken Crown Halo is the name of the new Lacuna Coil album that will be released upon the world this April 1st 2014. Currently the band is on a headlining tour promoting the album in the United States. Yesterday we had the opportunity to hear some of that new material live at the Marquee Theater, in Tempe, AZ. As the band played three brand new songs in front of a fervent crown that headbanged to each one of them.

I don’t remember ever seeing Lacuna Coil headlining at The Marquee Theater before, last year they came through town with Sevendust & Coal Chamber, and in 2012 they were part of the Gigantour with Megadeth & Motorhead. This headlining show was very exciting not only because a longer set, but because their live production was better than those two last times put together.

Lacuna Coil kicked off their show early around 9:15 pm (as a Sunday show made sense, and worked in everyone’s favor) with Trip Of Darkness, Killing The Light, & Intoxicated out of their latest album Dark Adrenaline (2012), followed by Fragments Of Faith & Fragile out of the Karmacode (2006) album. The classic Swamped out of their famous Comalies (2002) album served as a pre-game before they dropped the first new song Die & Rise out of Broken Crown Halo.

I Don’t Believe In Tomorrow & Against Me out of Dark Adrenaline kept the party going, and warmed out the crowd for Heaven’s A Lie out of Comalies, which the crowd sang along, and screamed the chorus under Cristina‘s and Andrea‘s command. Once again back to Dark Adrenaline with Upsidedown, then their new song Zombies out of the new Broken Crown Halo.

My Spirit was a song that Lacuna Coil wrote dedicated to the memory of the late Peter Steel of Type O Negative, a crushing moment to remember the fallen green giant. The show continued with their new single Nothing Stands Our Way out of Broken Crown Halo, and Lacuna Coil closed the show with Our Truth out of the Karmacode album.

After the show, I heard a lot of positive reactions from the new songs, but at the same time people were bummed out that the band didn’t have any physical copies for sale at their merch booth. Overall, it was a great show, with a lot of big lights, a lot of special moments, and of course the new songs took the spotlight to showcase a new era in Lacuna Coil‘s history.

Before their show, The Age Of Metal had the chance to speak with Cristina Scabbia & Andrea Ferro vocalists of Lacuna Coil. We talked about the tour, Broken Crown Halo, their lineup changes, and their plans for the rest of the year.
