Charlotte Wessels of Delain talked about the North American tour & The Human Contradiction

DIMMU BORGIR - Eonian

Charlotte-1Dutch band Delain had raised to stardom in North America since their début tour last year as supporting act for Kamelot, fast-forwarding a year later, they are at it again, this time supporting Finnish metal legends Sonata Arctica, along to fellow label mates Xandria. A bill that caters the lovers of fast riffs, sing along songs, and in general good European Metal.

When this tour was announced, I knew I had to make it at least to a couple of shows as I did last year. This because since I experienced Delain in 2010 at Progpower USA during their US show début, their energizing show and charismatic stage presence is a whole new level of fan-band interaction. So, I decided for this year’s tour to go back to The Grove of Anaheim, a huge and nice venue, that in my opinion makes the ‘Delain live experience‘ something more vivid and more special.

Once again, the Delain show at The Grove of Anaheim was a special occasion. Delain took the stage around 9pm, delivering a diverse set that included two songs (Army Of Dolls & Stardust) from their new album The Human Contradiction. Several songs from their 2012 album We Are The Others (Mother Machine, We Are The Others, Get The Devil Out Of Me, & Milk And Honey), as well as songs from their début album Lucidity (Pristine, Sleepwalkers Dream, & The Gathering).

Their show was superior from what we saw last year. As their songs were more recognizable among the crowd, and their stage production included nice fog effects between songs, which was a nice and professional touch for a band that is quickly raising as a strong musical force in the US. I can say this with all the security, as during the shows that I presence of Delain this year many people came to the show to see them specifically, and many of them left the venue after their set, or moved towards the back of the venue to see the rest of the show. Also I was impressed with the high number of people waiting to meet them and Xandria after Sonata Arctica‘s show.

Even though their tour is not over yet, and is confirmed that Delain will be back next year with Nightwish. Their shows are getting bigger not only in the technical aspect, but in the attendance aspect, as their music continues impacting people with every album they release.

Before the Anaheim show, The Age Of Metal talked to Delain‘s vocalist Charlotte Wessels. We talked about the tour and the album response, their line up changes, their 2015 tour with Nightwish, what are the chances to see Delain in other parts of the world, and the idea of a live DVD.
