Without a doubt British death metal band Carcass has been a huge influence on what we know as Death Metal & Grindcore today. Albums like Symphonies Of Sickness, Necrotism – Descanting the Insalubrious, and Heartwork are among the albums that pioneered those genres back in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
After a hiatus of 16 years, Carcass returned in 2008 for a series of shows and reunion tours, but it was until 2013 that they released new material in the form of Surgical Steel, an album that was praised by fans & media for sticking to the core sound of the band and was not altered by the implacable past of time.
After some promo shows in L.A and N.Y last year, Carcass announced their US tour as part of The Decibel Magazine Tour 2014 along with The Black Dhalia Murder, Gorguts & Noisem. The tour will kick off in Orlando, FL on March 18th, and will end on April 13th in Silver Springs, MD for a total of 21 dates. Since its announcement, the expectations for the return of Carcass to the American stages have never been higher. Not only because the response that Surgical Steel had generated among fans, but because is fucking Carcass. So there is no doubt this will be ‘The Extreme’ tour of the year.
As a preview of the show here in Phoenix, AZ on March 24th at The Pressroom, The Age Of Metal spoke with Bill Steer, guitar player and founding member of Carcass. We talked about, the reception of Surgical Steel, the preservation of their sound, his memories of Phoenix, and what the public can expect at the level of set list for this tour.
Also remember that we are running a photo contest, and the winner will get 2 pairs of tickets (4 tickets) for the Phoenix, AZ show at The Pressroom
