Fun fact: I’ve been a fan of The Dillinger Escape Plan for almost a third of my life. This band was one of the first bands I started listening to when I transitioned from bigger metal bands (i.e., your Lamb of God type bands and whatnot) to smaller bands.
And although their success has been nothing short of incredible, with slots headlining Summer Slaughter this year, they still keep to sounding immensely ridiculous. Of course, their live show goes without explanation: it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen, and that’s considering the stupid venue rule where I saw them in 2010 that kept them 10 feet from us.
We had the pleasure to speak with Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan about several things, ranging from how they prepare for their taxing live show and how that adapts to these immensely nice venues they’re playing now to their newest record, One of Us is the Killer, out now on Sumerian Records.
