Amaranthe has grown up as a driven force in the metal scene with their particular sound that combines pop music, elements of Eurodance, and melodic metal. They had taken the world of metal by surprised during their last 4 years, their last album, The Nexus reached # 6 in the Swedish charts, # 4 in the Finnish charts, and a surprised # 12 in the US Heatseekers charts last year. In 2014 they are releasing a new album called Massive Addictive.
Continuing with their particular, charismatic, and even explosive style, Amaranthe‘s Massive Addictive opens with a catchy & heavy song called Dynamite, a sole presentation card, that serves as an appetizer for what you will get with the rest of the album. Drop Dead Cynical, the first single of the album, is one of the heaviest songs in the record, the guitar riffs of Olof Mörck combined with the powerful harsh vocals of Henrik Englund (newest member of the band) create an effective sonic coalition, that finds the right balance with the harmonic voices of Jake E & Elize Ryd (Is important to remember that Amaranthe is perhaps the only metal band around there with three main vocalists)
Digital World & Massive Addictive are two of the most eclectic and heaviest songs within the record, the melody, and the texture of this two songs are just amazing, I am really looking forward to see any of them perform live during their upcoming North American tour that kicks off next week. Massive Addictive has really good heavy and energizing songs, but at the same time the album gains balance by ballads like Over And Done, and True. This songs besides delivering a heartwarming feeling also showcase the beautiful voices of Elize Ryd and Jake E, that together they sound deep and intense. You will literally feel the message of these songs going through you.
Massive Addictive also develops a middle ground with songs like Trinity, Exhale, and Unreal. These songs are a bit more mellow, and they act as a bridge between the really heavy songs and the ballads. definitely something that Amaranthe does well is manage that balance between the punching lines, and the emotional elements.
Overall, Amaranthe once again delivers a twisted and beautiful masterpiece of unadulterated pop/melodic metal. Not only the album is heavy, eclectic, and full of great enjoyable songs, but once you hit the play button this album will become Massively Addictive for you to put it down, there is no doubt that this album will land in several top best metal album lists of the year.
Bravo Amaranthe Bravo!!!
