Amaranthe – Breaking Points – B sides 2011- 2015

EP 2015 preview (1)[1]

Once again Amaranthe surprises us with yet another interesting release, last year they released their album Massive Addictive, and since then they have toured the world non-stop including North America twice this year. To continue the cycle of Massive Addictive they recently released an acoustic album titled Breaking Points – B sides 2011- 2015

The album opens with a passionate and slow version of Hunger, that explodes into beautiful and violent violin parts. I find fascinating how this version sounds on its acoustic form, its like you know the melodies, but it feels like a totally different song. The acoustic version of Afterlife has nice arpeggios, but it has more emphasis on the vocal melodies. This version not only pushes the vocal range of Jack & Elize to the limit but also makes Jake‘s voice sound a lot cleaner. Interesting to hear the solo on acoustic guitar.

Amaranthine has a beautiful arrangement with what it sounds like an acoustic bass guitar that gives a whole new background to the song, a really beautiful ballad. Burn With Me, the guitar and harmonica and violins open the song perfectly. I like how slow this song gets, somehow it makes it clear. There is also a mash-up of instruments that makes up the perfect background. Trinity gets a totally different angle, the melodies are just awesome, even better than the original version I must say.

True, it’s really similar to the original version, but it gets an extra acoustic treatment. The vocals are amazing, a really emotional song. Besides the acoustic versions, there are a couple new songs on this album. Breaking Point, which is a quite strong and catchy song and it does has a lot of elements from both Massive Addictive and The Nexus as well, some sort of meeting point for the two albums. Splinter In My Soul, it is a more visceral song and the heaviest song on this album. Henrik’s vocals seem to be quite dominant through the whole song. Interesting song and really nice to see Amaranthe go heavier at every given opportunity.

Amaranthe‘s Breaking Points – B sides 2011- 2015 is a nice complement and a companion to Massive Addictive, I wish Amaranthe could perform some of this material live on the acoustic form, it would add a sense of intimacy to their live show, perhaps on a future show, but for now, this are great acoustic versions.
